Cannes Market 2010 spells success for Chilean films - Films Boutique sells Jimenez' OPTICAL ILLUSIONS; more territories closed for Artiagoitía's GRADO 3
Chilean feature ILUSIONES OPTICAS, sold through Films Boutique, has closed for the UK, Australia, Russia, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, with more negotiations in the pipeline. Korean rights were closed for Roberto Artiagoitía's comedy GRADO 3, already sold in the US and Latin America prior to the Cannes Festival.
Interest in the other Chilean films is also lively, with a number of additional deals expected to be confirmed over the next few days.
Underscoring Chile's resurgence as a film country, a total of 37 producers representing 23 film projects are present in Cannes at the Producers Network. For the first time, the Chilean market presence is orchestrated through Cinema Chile, the new agency for the promotion of Chilean films abroad.
Cinema Chile will also show two of the recent crop of Chilean productions in market screenings: LA ESPERA by Francisca Fuenzalida (ONDAMAX, GRAY 4, May 18, 19:30) and ILUSIONES OPTICAS by Cristian Jimenez (Films Boutique, GRAY 2, May 19, 11:30).
Chile is represented in this year's official program with two productions: Patricio Guzman's wrenching documentary NOSTALGIA DE LA LUZ (Out of Competition) that premiered to great acclaim last Friday and up-and-coming director Marialy Rivas' BLOKES (Competition des Courts Métrages), highly anticipated for May 22.
